Easter Workshops

If you think your child could do with some extra lessons over the holidays but don't want to commit to term-time tutoring, then my Easter workshops could be just what you need.
Sometimes all it takes is a few booster sessions to revisit a topic they are finding difficult. That extra time and focus in a one-to-one setting can provide the opportunity for your child to fully grasp a new concept and to ask questions without the embarrassment they may feel in a classroom.
Having worked with children from all stages and abilities in primary school, I will tailor each lesson to your child's individual needs whether that be in maths or English.
With so many upcoming assessments in the summer term for Year 1, Year 4 and Year 6, now is a good time to start some dedicated tutoring. So if you are looking for SATs preparation and revision, phonics practise, multiplication and division or general catch up tuition, please get in touch to arrange a time.

One-to-one sessions @£45 for one hour or £30 for half an hour:
Week commencing 14th April 2025
Monday 10:00 - 5:00
Tuesday 10:00 - 5:00
Wednesday 2:00 - 6:00
Thursday 2:00 - 6:00

Summer Workshops

Avoid the summer slide and be ready for September!
It is not surprising, but after a six week break, many children forget some of the concepts they were taught in maths and especially get out of the practice of reading and writing with so many other distractions throughout the summer holidays.
During two weeks of the summer holidays, I will be providing 1:1 sessions to assess primary school-aged children to identify any gaps in their learning. From this analysis, I can then offer tailored tuition to bridge those gaps or just to revise any areas of the curriculum before your child starts a new academic year in September.

Sessions cost £45 per hour. (If you are able to get a couple of children together, I can offer a group rate at £30 per hour.)

Week commencing 5th - 9th and 19th - 23rd August:
Monday and Tuesday 10 - 4pm
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 1:30 - 4:30pm

Every year, across the country and around the world, World Book Day is celebrated in schools with many activities and initiatives around reading. No doubt, you are already planning a costume to put together or shopping for one for your child to dress up as a character from a book. But this isn't the only thing that World Book Day is about.
There is much research which shows that the children who read regularly and are read to have much better outcomes, in not only English but maths and the wider curriculum too, as they progress through SATs, GCSEs and A Levels.

Here are 6 elements you can can use to support your child with developing a love of reading:
  • Being read to regularly
  • Having books at home and at school
  • Having a choice in what to read
  • Finding time to read
  • Having trusted help to find a book
  • Making reading FUN!
At some point next week, each pupil will be given a £1 book token to spend in book shops. Why not start their passion for books now?
Get in touch if you would like more information to support your child on their reading journey.

National Storytelling Week

National Storytelling Week will take place from 27th January to 4th February.

This fantastic annual event is a joyful celebration of the power of sharing stories. Stories teach us about the world, they allow us to step into someone else’s shoes and feel empathy, they help us to relax and escape and they can help develop essential literacy skills.

What better way to spend some special time with your child than to snuggle down together with just your imagination to create your own story? Use a picture book, a favourite toy or game, or familiar people to spark ideas and discuss the scenes or characters, using your imagination to be as wild and fantastical as you can be! Dream up new worlds together; they could be magical, hilarious, adventurous, out of this world – there are no rules or limits!

In the crucial early years of education, instilling a growth mindset in primary children can pave the way for a lifetime of learning and resilience. A growth mindset teaches children that intelligence and abilities can be developed through effort and learning from mistakes.

This article explores the significance of a growth mindset for young learners and provides practical tips for fostering this mindset.

The Power of a Growth Mindset:
Embracing Challenges
Encourage children to view challenges as opportunities for growth, fostering increased self-confidence and a positive approach to new tasks.
Persistence and Effort
Instil the understanding that success comes with hard work and effort, promoting a strong work ethic and a willingness to tackle challenges head-on.
Learning from Mistakes
Teach children to embrace mistakes as part of the learning process, fostering resilience and the ability to adapt and improve.
Developing a Love for Learning
A growth mindset nurtures a love for learning by emphasising the joy of discovery and improvement, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion for education.

Cultivating a Growth Mindset:
Encourage Positive Self-Talk
Guide children to use positive and constructive language, emphasising that challenges are opportunities for growth.
Praise Effort, Not Just Results
Focus praise on the effort and hard work invested in a task, reinforcing the idea that progress is achieved through dedication.
Model a Growth Mindset
Lead by example, sharing personal experiences of overcoming challenges and highlighting the importance of continuous learning.
Provide Constructive Feedback
Offer feedback that helps children understand mistakes, encouraging a mindset that values learning and improvement.

Set Realistic Expectations
Assist children in setting achievable goals, teaching them that progress is made through consistent effort and resilience.

Cultivating a growth mindset in primary children is a valuable investment in their future. By fostering a belief in their capacity to learn and adapt, we empower them to become confident, resilient, and enthusiastic learners. Through positive reinforcement, modelling, and a supportive environment, we can set our young learners on a path to a fulfilling and successful educational journey. With a growth mindset, the possibilities are limitless, and the learning journey becomes just as important as the destination.
